Evaluation of results
From the age range of my questionnaire, I know that the results that I receieved will be helpful to cater for the preferances of 17-21, with a 50-50 split of male and female. As I chose the Dubsteb genre for my magazine I needed to find out whether the recipitents of my survey actually liked the genre, to see if it would be appliable. Fortunately, 41.7% of my audience listened to Dubstep a lot, and 25% sometimes did, so their feedback would be helpful for a Dubstep magazine.
NME was the most popular magazine in the survey by an astounding margain. 57.1% voted for NME, with ;Kerrang, Q and XXL all tied on 14.3%. Although a different genre of music to the magazine I would be producing, I could base a lot of conventions of that particular magazine, on my own.
I then asked the audience what their favourite colour was. A juvenile question it may be, but this could well be vital to my magazine production in terms of the colour schemes. People may be more attracted to the magazine , if the colour of the cover etc, appeal to them. Blue, purple and grey were the most popular colours with 30% of the vote, followed by black with 10%. I could keep this in mind during the production of my magazine pages.
The design of a magazine can often make or break it's marketability, with an ugly design likely to put off customers, no matter what the content inside. The results of the preferred design with the audience were inconclusive. Simple and extravagant both level with 41.7% each. Both opposite ends of the spectrum, but it did show that whether you chose to have an extravagant or simple design, it will appeal to at least someone. It all comes down to taste rather than musical preferances.
The final question of my survey was : 'How much would you be willing to spend on a monthly magazine'. The most popular answer was £2.01-3. This gives you a good idea of how much a monthly magazine should be.
