Moonman

A quivering hand placed down the glass of water he had been tentatively sipping for sometime. It is no secret that once star of the industry ‘Moonman’ has been through tremendous strain in the past two years, with what looked like an infinity of problems heaped upon him. Twenty four months later, fit and healthy may be too generous a term to label Moonman, but he is on the mend and a comeback is imminent. We talked to the man himself, on the death and revival of his career.

“ It started one night at my gig in Munich” Moonman seems surprisingly relaxed as we enquire about how his drug problem came about. “Well everyone, erm.. all of the crew, they were at the sinks and someone had something. I just thought, you know once can’t hurt can it ?. So I did it, first time I had and I just felt really buzzed, I was already because I was still feeling the vibe from the crowd, but even more so now. “ As you probably know it didn’t stop here for him. “ After that it was heavier stuff, and I guess I just came dependant on it. I was on about 5 different drugs at least once a day.”

With a monumental downfall inevitable, record company ‘Ste Town Music’ dropped Moonman, with him failing to reach deadlines time and time again, also a dramatic decrease in popularity. Things could not possibly get any worse for Moonman surely? Well they could. In June 2010, Moonman’s wife of ten years divorced him after a line of affairs were uncovered by tabloid newspapers, including a female Dub counterpart ; Wife Party. Moonman as a result lost £2 million in the divorce settlement and lost custody of his children.

“ I thought I was going to die seriously, it was just one thing ( begins to lightly sob) after another you know. It was like God didn’t want me here. I was convinced either he would take my life of I would.” There is little shock that in August 2010 Moonman was diagnosed with Clinical Depression.

The twice Dubstep ‘Artist Of The Year’ winner, was in and out of rehab until eventually being deemed ‘fit for the outside world’ by senior Psychologists in January this year. Although the remnants of the illness and addiction are still there, Moonman is looking increasingly like his old self. “ I’m almost finished my new album. There’s some serious drops in this, I think I can compete with DJ Spoony to be completely honest.” His response when the question of a comeback was posed. “ I’m almost there, I’m fit to do another tour, this time with the absence of drugs. It’s going to be insane. “

We would like to thank Moonman for speaking to ‘ Bassdrop’ and it was an enlightening experience. We look forward to see him burst on the scene again, competing with DJ Spoony.
